I am very excited to announce my show “Looking” at Practical Art in August!
Opening reception on First Friday, August 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. at 5070 N. Central Ave, PHX. Hope to see you there! If you can’t make it, the show will be open the whole month of August.
The works in “Looking” are ceramic wall pieces whose colors and compositions begin with cell phone pictures of built places, such as parking lots, street corners, and construction sites. Some pieces incorporate industrial elements like power and water infrastructure. I see these places as constituting the landscape, rather than an imposition on it.
My work in ceramics starts with a red clay body. I often shape or carve the slab while the clay is still wet. After an initial bisque firing, I apply multiple layers of glazes, underglazes, ceramic stains, and oxides.
For more information, please see Practical Art’s website.
This weekend is Arizona State University’s Ceramic Studio Tour. This is a juried event run by ASU’s Art Museum and the Ceramics Research Center. Forty-one ceramics artists will be at eleven studios around the valley. The artists will be displaying and selling their work, as well as demoing ceramics art techniques.
I will be at Nicholas Bernard’s studio at 6234 N. Cattle Track Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85250 (Scottsdale Rd. and Lincoln Dr.). I’m proud to be in the company of so many of the valley’s great ceramics artists.
ASU’s web page for the tour is here.
Tomorrow night is the Art d’Core Gala, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Artlink! Music, dance, conversation, a toast from Mayor Stanton, and ART!!!
This year, each member of the Artlink Artist Council has chosen an up-and-coming artist to be included in the one-night Art d’Cour Gala exhibition, and I’m very proud to be participating as the wonderful Patricia Sannit’s mentee.
Tickets available through Eventbrite or at the door!
